Blueprint 2/17

Eduardo Ibanez

Beyond The Airways will be a sincere and conversation-driven podcast where I interview an employee in the aviation industry and what his experiences were in trying to enter the field in a post-covid world. These stories are for those prospecting individuals trying to enter the field of aviation maintenance as well as aviation enthusiasts just wanting to know a bit more behind the field. Unlike other aviation-related narratives, BTA will follow the rookie’s journey and the issues of relocating away from home, and the complex politics of airline mechanic employment.

Title- Beyond The Airways

Possible one-liner for the episode- Syed has returned home after his employment as a regional airline mechanic. The city that never sleeps sits down with him to hear his story.

Possible one-liner for the series- Beyond The Airways follows the personal journeys of employees across the aviation field of maintenance.

Additional information- I have already sat down in a pre-interview with my friend Syed Rahman and we went over the recording format and areas of discussion that would generate a sincere and informative interview. We are setting the date for the actual interview sometime next week and he is very excited to join me in conversation so that’s making things a lot smoother on my end. My friend has recently returned from his two-month employment as an Endeavor airline mechanic in Columbus, Ohio.

Some of my questions-

Why Ohio of all places?

Were you ever afraid or nervous in the interviewing phase for the job?

Do you think school helped you prep for the actual experience out in the field or were you working from step one?

What were you doing before that made you realize the aviation path is the one that you wanted to follow in its entirety?

Do you remember back to our high school days were we all talked about signing up with Delta and JetBlue and all the first-pick jobs right out of graduation? Do you still believe that?

My image is still a work in progress but I definitely want to insert a wrench or toolbox ha

Blueprint

Torri Little

Blueprint: Being a teacher is not easy, we don’t really get to hear or see the day-to-day actions of what goes on in a school. Teachers are strong and are preparing our youth for the world. This podcast is to bring awareness to the things teachers really must go through and how they feel with all the things that are happening with our youth all over the world. Also, to give some insight to future teachers.

Title: A BEGINNER’S GUIDE FOR FUTURE TEACHERS.

One liner for podcast: Shoutout to the GOATS, greatest of all teachers!

One liner for episode: The Ins and Outs Of Teaching.

Interview Questions:

  1. Where do you work and what grade do you teach?
  2. Are you currently enrolled in college?
  3. How do you feel about your job?
  4. What made you want to become a teacher?
  5. What does a regular day consist of for you as a teacher?
  6. How would you describe some of the students in your class?
  7. Do your students make you proud to be a teacher?
  8. Were you a teacher before covid? If so, how has covid affected being a teacher for you?
  9. Is there any violence among students in the school where you work?
  10. As a teacher, how does hearing about school shootings affect you?
  11. What are some things you’ve learned about teaching that you wish someone would have told you?
  12. What advice do you have for future teachers?
  13. What is one thing you wish you could change within the school system?

My goal for this podcast is to give teachers some recognition for the hard work that they put in. I know teachers are given their flowers, but the things that they go through in the school are not always talked about. My target audience for this podcast would be teachers and future teachers. I want teachers to be able to listen and really feel and understand the words coming from another teacher because they are also living it. I want future teachers to have a sneak peek of what’s to come. Even though not everyone’s experiences are the same, most are experiencing some of the same situations.

Blueprint 2/17

Title: Age of Influencers

One Liner: Arianna Arce’s Age of Influencers analyzes how the surge of social media influencers impacts our every day lives.

Blueprint: Age of Influencers is a podcast that provides insight on the impact and power social media influencers have in today’s day in age. CoLLege MaMi – Interview Blueprint

Blueprint:.

College Mami is a podcast that gives you fun and real stories about moms living through their college experience, it provides a sense of community unlike your typical college podcast our project talks about the challenges and triumphs that College moms encounter.

Title:

College Mami College

One-liner:

College Mami provides you with essential information, advice and inspiration for college moms to flourish.

For this interview I will interview a college mami of two. We will talk about some of the challenges she has had to face. What happens in a typical day and what advice she would give to moms who may be facing similar challenges. I’ve already spoken to the person I will be interviewing and we decided not to do a pre-interview or talk about any of the questions to have a more organic conversation. I haven’t decided how or where the interview will take place but because moms are busy, it may have to be a zoom call or other platform.

I want the tone of my podcast to be fun, inspiring, and positive. A place where moms can be themselves without being judged.

Some of the questions I had in mind:

  1. What do you do in a typical day?
  2. What are you hoping to achieve ?
  3. Why are you in college?
  4. What are some of the challenges or obstacles that you’ve had to face?
  5. If you could go back in time, would you have finished college before kids?
  6. Do you think that being a mom has benefited how you are as a student?
  7. If you could give one piece advice to another college Mami what would it be?
  8. Do you have any mom guilt for going to college and spending time away from your kids?

Target audience:.

College moms

Blueprint:

The Masked Knights is a chill-interview style podcast that explores what it was like to be a 2020 graduate from alumni who took part in school spirit. This podcast is for those interested in learning what the hardships were and unlike stories from outside newscasts, our podcast comes from those who lived through it.

Title: The Masked Knights

One Liners:

The Masked Knights help revive the voices and stories behind the masks of 2020 seniors.

In this episode, I am diving deep into the harsh realities from the eyes of Queens Metropolitan High School’s Student Council PR Representative, Justin Rodriguez, who had made it a priority to bring school spirit throughout those unprecedented times.

Some more information:

I have scheduled this interview with Justin to be in person as he is now a student at Queens College (and had transferred from St. Joe’s). For our pre interview, I want to briefly tell him about what the goal of this podcast will be and the topics we will be discussing throughout the interview session. Justin and I have been friends since middle school and have experienced the pandemic together, even though we might not be close anymore we still have lived through the same tough times and memories that will last a lifetime.

Justin Rodriguez had helped establish relations within the student population virtually while still trying to make the most of his senior year. Though now a taboo subject, we will sit down and discuss what was his motive behind wanting to do as much as he could for the school he would shortly depart from once graduation rolled around. Creating virtual talk shows from both the student population and the school’s staff, “Metro Knight Live” was something that had motivated a lot of students to try and live their lives during these times. Delivering weekly school announcements had also been an important part of the virtual classroom that Rodriguez had helped coordinate.

Some interview questions might be:

What is the one word you think of when you think back to being a senior in 2020?

How did you deal with the initial shock that we would not be returning to school?

Besides prom and graduation, were there any events that the student council wanted to plan that you were looking forward to?

How was your support system during this time?

Did you find it important to keep school spirit holding such a big role in PR for Metro?

What was one thing you were looking forward to as we approached graduation?

This is a rough draft of my cover:

Blueprints- College Road Trip

Title of Episode: College Road Trip with Ty Renna

One Liners: Monica Sarduy’s College Road Trip, showcases how different the lives of college students are, all while driving on an epic road trip.

BluePrint: College Road Trip is a podcast that focuses on the experiences and hobbies of different college students throughout the country.

Interview Questions:

Why did you decide to join an acapella group, and did you think that it would change your life as much as it did?

What’s your favorite song from the setlist?

Can you talk about the fundraiser you selected for your last show?

My goal from this podcast is to learn about the life of President elect and “Ambassador of Fun”, Ty Rena. As head of the “Abbey’s” all male acapella group at Boston University, this episode would expose just how influential extra curricular activities are in college. We would record this on our home from Boston after a fundraiser show, this episode would also highlight the importance of the charity. The target audience for this podcast is definitely other college students, especially those interested in particular clubs.

Blueprints, One-liners, Interview Questions and All the In-betweeners

Podcast Title: 2 Baddies 1 Mic

Blueprint: 2 Baddies 1 Mic is a podcast that focuses on the “kbands” of the South Korean music industry for South Korean music listeners who may not know the sub-category exists. Unlike kpop-related podcasts/blogs, etc., this project will shed some light on some of South Korea’s instrument players and give these bands the recognition they deserve.

One liner for series: 2 Baddies 1 Mic sheds light on some of South Korea’s “kbands” within the South Korean music industry.

Episode Title: “K-bands” in a Nutshell (not sure if I want to leave k-bands in the quotation marks or not so please leave suggestions!)

One liner for episode: In this episode, I talk with my best friend Emerson about their views on the “kbands” and how they play into South Korea’s music industry.

Interview Questions:

  1. How did you get into kpop?
  2. How did you start getting into the band culture within Korean music?
  3. What bands do you know of/listen to these days?
  4. What do you like about the kbands vs. “mainstream” kpop groups?
  5. What do you think makes the bands stand out in contrast to the kpop groups who have a dance attached to their songs?
  6. Do you think the kbands are under-represented/underrated/under-appreciated in comparison to the groups? Why do you think that is?

My goal for this podcast is to expose the listeners to a category they didn’t think was possible within the South Korean music industry because of the globalization of select kpop groups. I, my interviewee, and a lot of other people within our circle listen to a lot of bands (within the South Korean music industry and outside of it) and we feel as though the kband community is small. This podcast will hopefully allow kpop listeners to dive into something different within the South Korean music industry, and perhaps allow people who dislike kpop to look into a different lens within the South Korean music industry.

Blueprint: The pandemic generation is a Podcast that shows the effects of covid 19 from a teacher’s perspective for parents, and outsiders who don’t understand the effects that online schooling, and lack of social interaction has on young children. Unlike articles showing a one-sided narrative, this podcast shows a first-person view of how it has been to work with children before, during, and after the COVID 19 pandemic hit.

Title: The pandemic generation

One liner for episode: An in depth look from a teacher’s perspective of what it has been like to work with kids growing up in a pandemic world.

One liner for Podcast: How growing up in a pandemic and post pandemic world affects kids, teenagers, and adults physically and mentally

Interview Questions:

What grade do you teach and how old are the children in your class?
How long have you taught in this grade?
What is the biggest difference that you see in children since before the pandemic, throughout the pandemic, and now entering the post pandemic world?
How do children act socially since being back in school full time? How is this different from how children were socially before schools shut down?

My goal with this podcast is to shed some light on the negative impact that being fully online had on children and still has on children. The target audience for this podcast is people who are interested in effects of covid that do not directly have to do with physical sickness. There is a lot of negative effects of covid that have to do with outside the human anatomy and they are not talked about enough. There is inflation, children who have very low social skills, and adults and teenagers who heavily rely on technology and smart phones. In this episode we will be discussing the difference that teachers have seen in young children since transitioning back to in person learning.

In-Class Workshop: Motive, Blueprint, One-Liner, and Questions (2/16)

  • What are some of the motives for your episode? Discuss these with the group.

  • Using the template on pp. 35-36 of The NPR Startup Guide, write a draft of a “blueprint” for your episode (or series). Then sketch out an idea (or two) for a logo. After that, draft a one-liner to describe your episode. Share these with your group and discuss.

  • Based on the templates on p. 105, make a list of sounds you hope to include and make notes about your interviewee / guest

  • Based on the discussion on pp. 160-161, write up a quick draft of some interview questions. Share and discuss these with the group.

Preparing for Class Thursday 2/16

Preparing for class tomorrow is pretty straightforward:

  • Be sure you fill out a Podcast Analysis Worksheet for the episode of Lulu Garcia Navarro’s First Person. I gave out hard copies in class, and I’ve posted a PDF to the calendar and to our Documents page.
  • In Weldon’s NPR Startup Guide, review p. 35-36 on blueprints, one-liners, and titles, p. 136 on sound collection worksheets and 105 on sound collection lists and interview lists, and 160-161 on interview questions.
  • On the Calendar, review what’s due Friday and Tuesday.

That’s it!
