CoLLege MaMi – Interview Blueprint

Blueprint:.

College Mami is a podcast that gives you fun and real stories about moms living through their college experience, it provides a sense of community unlike your typical college podcast our project talks about the challenges and triumphs that College moms encounter.

Title:

College Mami College

One-liner:

College Mami provides you with essential information, advice and inspiration for college moms to flourish.

For this interview I will interview a college mami of two. We will talk about some of the challenges she has had to face. What happens in a typical day and what advice she would give to moms who may be facing similar challenges. I’ve already spoken to the person I will be interviewing and we decided not to do a pre-interview or talk about any of the questions to have a more organic conversation. I haven’t decided how or where the interview will take place but because moms are busy, it may have to be a zoom call or other platform.

I want the tone of my podcast to be fun, inspiring, and positive. A place where moms can be themselves without being judged.

Some of the questions I had in mind:

  1. What do you do in a typical day?
  2. What are you hoping to achieve ?
  3. Why are you in college?
  4. What are some of the challenges or obstacles that you’ve had to face?
  5. If you could go back in time, would you have finished college before kids?
  6. Do you think that being a mom has benefited how you are as a student?
  7. If you could give one piece advice to another college Mami what would it be?
  8. Do you have any mom guilt for going to college and spending time away from your kids?

Target audience:.

Well, I think the topic of college moms is a great entry point for a podcast and although I am not the target audience, I think you could attract more people if you rephrase the subject matter. Instead of having it be solely based on the college mom’s experience, you could into the conversation about how an older demographic handles the stress and work of the college journey and also how similar or different challenges arise from anyone attending a college.
As for a pointer on the questions, I would suggest asking the interviewee how the version of college they grew up with has changed now that they attend as a mother and parent. Also, I love the poster, maybe you could find a stick figure of a mom holding hands with her family and putting like a little cap on the mother to symbolize her academic journey.

I really like the idea of your episode. lighthearted but still discusses a very important topic. I think the questions you have are really good and would be effective but I think the introduction or opening should give more information of your status as a college mom. This is going to be a really fun and intimate interview because you’re talking to a close friend but as the audience we would benefit from a little more background info . Some questions could be ” how many kids do you have?” ” How old are they?” ” How long have you been in school as a mom?”. Overall , I’m really excited to see your finalized work. so far it feels unforced and genuine.
